Projects

The Yuba Watershed Institute is leading several projects to improve forest health and landscape resilience in the Yuba River Watershed.

South Yuba Rim Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project

The South Yuba Rim Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project, a collaboration with Nevada County Office of Emergency Services, aims to establish a landscape-level zone of reduced fuel along the north rim of the South Yuba River canyon, extending from Bridgeport in the South Yuba River State Park to Malakoff Diggins State Park, a stretch of approximately 17 miles. Phase 1 involves planning and securing environmental compliance, covering up to 6,900 acres of privately-owned land (including 270 parcels and 219 landowners). Phase 2, starting no earlier than 2026, will focus on implementing fuels reduction treatments on about 800 acres using various methods. Learn more.
